Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 2 and 32 is 32

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 32
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 2 × 16 = 32,
    10/2 = 10 × 16/2 × 16 = 160/32
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 32 × 1 = 32,
    4/32 = 4 × 1/32 × 1 = 4/32
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 160/32 > 4/32 or 10/2 > 4/32
