Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 3 and 4 is 12
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 3 × 4 = 12,
    10/3 = 10 × 4/3 × 4 = 40/12
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 4 × 3 = 12,
    10/4 = 10 × 3/4 × 3 = 30/12
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 40/12 > 30/12 or 10/3 > 10/4
