Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 3 and 24 is 24

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 24
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 3 × 8 = 24,
    10/3 = 10 × 8/3 × 8 = 80/24
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 24 × 1 = 24,
    2/24 = 2 × 1/24 × 1 = 2/24
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 80/24 > 2/24 or 10/3 > 2/24
