Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 30 and 16 is 240
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 30 × 8 = 240,
    10/30 = 10 × 8/30 × 8 = 80/240
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 16 × 15 = 240,
    14/16 = 14 × 15/16 × 15 = 210/240
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 80/240 < 210/240 or 10/30 < 14/16
