Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 30 and 9 is 90
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 30 × 3 = 90,
    10/30 = 10 × 3/30 × 3 = 30/90
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 9 × 10 = 90,
    2/9 = 2 × 10/9 × 10 = 20/90
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 30/90 > 20/90 or 10/30 > 2/9
