Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 4 and 36 is 36

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 36
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 4 × 9 = 36,
    10/4 = 10 × 9/4 × 9 = 90/36
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 36 × 1 = 36,
    3/36 = 3 × 1/36 × 1 = 3/36
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 90/36 > 3/36 or 10/4 > 3/36
