Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 45 and 60 is 180

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 180
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 45 × 4 = 180,
    10/45 = 10 × 4/45 × 4 = 40/180
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 60 × 3 = 180,
    15/60 = 15 × 3/60 × 3 = 45/180
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 40/180 < 45/180 or 10/45 < 15/60
