Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 6 and 32 is 96
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 6 × 16 = 96,
    10/6 = 10 × 16/6 × 16 = 160/96
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 32 × 3 = 96,
    14/32 = 14 × 3/32 × 3 = 42/96
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 160/96 > 42/96 or 10/6 > 14/32
