Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 6 and 8 is 24
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 6 × 4 = 24,
    10/6 = 10 × 4/6 × 4 = 40/24
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 8 × 3 = 24,
    35/8 = 35 × 3/8 × 3 = 105/24
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 40/24 < 105/24 or 10/6 < 35/8
