Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 6 and 27 is 54

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 54
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 6 × 9 = 54,
    10/6 = 10 × 9/6 × 9 = 90/54
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 27 × 2 = 54,
    50/27 = 50 × 2/27 × 2 = 100/54
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 90/54 < 100/54 or 10/6 < 50/27
