Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 60 and 64 is 960

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 960
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 60 × 16 = 960,
    10/60 = 10 × 16/60 × 16 = 160/960
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 64 × 15 = 960,
    12/64 = 12 × 15/64 × 15 = 180/960
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 160/960 < 180/960 or 10/60 < 12/64
