Compare 10/60 and 20/90

10/60 is smaller than 20/90

Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 60 and 90 is 180
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 60 × 3 = 180,
    10/60 = 10 × 3/60 × 3 = 30/180
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 90 × 2 = 180,
    20/90 = 20 × 2/90 × 2 = 40/180
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 30/180 < 40/180 or 10/60 < 20/90
