Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 60 and 5 is 60
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 60 × 1 = 60,
    10/60 = 10 × 1/60 × 1 = 10/60
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 5 × 12 = 60,
    63/5 = 63 × 12/5 × 12 = 756/60
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 10/60 < 756/60 or 10/60 < 63/5
