Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 60 and 32 is 480

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 480
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 60 × 8 = 480,
    10/60 = 10 × 8/60 × 8 = 80/480
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 32 × 15 = 480,
    8/32 = 8 × 15/32 × 15 = 120/480
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 80/480 < 120/480 or 10/60 < 8/32
