Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 63 and 60 is 1260

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 1260
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 63 × 20 = 1260,
    10/63 = 10 × 20/63 × 20 = 200/1260
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 60 × 21 = 1260,
    49/60 = 49 × 21/60 × 21 = 1029/1260
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 200/1260 < 1029/1260 or 10/63 < 49/60
