Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 8 and 3 is 24

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 24
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 8 × 3 = 24,
    10/8 = 10 × 3/8 × 3 = 30/24
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 3 × 8 = 24,
    6/3 = 6 × 8/3 × 8 = 48/24
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 30/24 < 48/24 or 10/8 < 6/3
