Compare 12/96 and 14/90

Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 96 and 90 is 1440
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 96 × 15 = 1440,
    12/96 = 12 × 15/96 × 15 = 180/1440
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 90 × 16 = 1440,
    14/90 = 14 × 16/90 × 16 = 224/1440
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 180/1440 < 224/1440 or 12/96 < 14/90
