Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 16 and 25 is 400
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 16 × 25 = 400,
    14/16 = 14 × 25/16 × 25 = 350/400
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 25 × 16 = 400,
    63/25 = 63 × 16/25 × 16 = 1008/400
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 350/400 < 1008/400 or 14/16 < 63/25
