Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 3 and 25 is 75

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 75
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 3 × 25 = 75,
    14/3 = 14 × 25/3 × 25 = 350/75
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 25 × 3 = 75,
    4/25 = 4 × 3/25 × 3 = 12/75
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 350/75 > 12/75 or 14/3 > 4/25
