Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 60 and 63 is 1260

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 1260
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 60 × 21 = 1260,
    14/60 = 14 × 21/60 × 21 = 294/1260
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 63 × 20 = 1260,
    21/63 = 21 × 20/63 × 20 = 420/1260
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 294/1260 < 420/1260 or 14/60 < 21/63
