Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 8 and 25 is 200
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 8 × 25 = 200,
    14/8 = 14 × 25/8 × 25 = 350/200
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 25 × 8 = 200,
    63/25 = 63 × 8/25 × 8 = 504/200
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 350/200 < 504/200 or 14/8 < 63/25
