Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 90 and 60 is 180
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 90 × 2 = 180,
    14/90 = 14 × 2/90 × 2 = 28/180
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 60 × 3 = 180,
    48/60 = 48 × 3/60 × 3 = 144/180
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 28/180 < 144/180 or 14/90 < 48/60
