Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 10 and 30 is 30

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 30
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 10 × 3 = 30,
    15/10 = 15 × 3/10 × 3 = 45/30
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 30 × 1 = 30,
    64/30 = 64 × 1/30 × 1 = 64/30
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 45/30 < 64/30 or 15/10 < 64/30
