Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 10 and 60 is 60
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 10 × 6 = 60,
    15/10 = 15 × 6/10 × 6 = 90/60
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 60 × 1 = 60,
    96/60 = 96 × 1/60 × 1 = 96/60
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 90/60 < 96/60 or 15/10 < 96/60
