Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 27 and 60 is 540

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 540
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 27 × 20 = 540,
    15/27 = 15 × 20/27 × 20 = 300/540
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 60 × 9 = 540,
    56/60 = 56 × 9/60 × 9 = 504/540
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
