Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 28 and 20 is 140

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 140
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 28 × 5 = 140,
    15/28 = 15 × 5/28 × 5 = 75/140
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 20 × 7 = 140,
    6/20 = 6 × 7/20 × 7 = 42/140
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 75/140 > 42/140 or 15/28 > 6/20
