Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 4 and 35 is 140
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 4 × 35 = 140,
    15/4 = 15 × 35/4 × 35 = 525/140
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 35 × 4 = 140,
    8/35 = 8 × 4/35 × 4 = 32/140
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 525/140 > 32/140 or 15/4 > 8/35
