Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 6 and 7 is 42
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 6 × 7 = 42,
    15/6 = 15 × 7/6 × 7 = 105/42
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 7 × 6 = 42,
    2/7 = 2 × 6/7 × 6 = 12/42
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 105/42 > 12/42 or 15/6 > 2/7
