Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 6 and 35 is 210

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 210
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 6 × 35 = 210,
    2/6 = 2 × 35/6 × 35 = 70/210
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 35 × 6 = 210,
    2/35 = 2 × 6/35 × 6 = 12/210
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 70/210 > 12/210 or 2/6 > 2/35
