Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 2 and 3 is 6
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 2 × 3 = 6,
    21/2 = 21 × 3/2 × 3 = 63/6
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 3 × 2 = 6,
    35/3 = 35 × 2/3 × 2 = 70/6
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 63/6 < 70/6 or 21/2 < 35/3
