Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 4 and 10 is 20

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 20
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 4 × 5 = 20,
    25/4 = 25 × 5/4 × 5 = 125/20
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 10 × 2 = 20,
    18/10 = 18 × 2/10 × 2 = 36/20
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 125/20 > 36/20 or 25/4 > 18/10
