Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 90 and 32 is 1440

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 1440
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 90 × 16 = 1440,
    27/90 = 27 × 16/90 × 16 = 432/1440
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 32 × 45 = 1440,
    20/32 = 20 × 45/32 × 45 = 900/1440
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 432/1440 < 900/1440 or 27/90 < 20/32
