Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 15 and 10 is 30
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 15 × 2 = 30,
    3/15 = 3 × 2/15 × 2 = 6/30
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 10 × 3 = 30,
    16/10 = 16 × 3/10 × 3 = 48/30
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 6/30 < 48/30 or 3/15 < 16/10
