Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 25 and 7 is 175

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 175
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 25 × 7 = 175,
    3/25 = 3 × 7/25 × 7 = 21/175
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 7 × 25 = 175,
    3/7 = 3 × 25/7 × 25 = 75/175
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 21/175 < 75/175 or 3/25 < 3/7
