Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 35 and 10 is 70

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 70
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 35 × 2 = 70,
    3/35 = 3 × 2/35 × 2 = 6/70
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 10 × 7 = 70,
    7/10 = 7 × 7/10 × 7 = 49/70
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 6/70 < 49/70 or 3/35 < 7/10
