- Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
LCM of 6 and 9 is 18
Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 18 - For the 1st fraction, since 6 × 3 = 18,
36 = 3 × 36 × 3 = 918 - Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 9 × 2 = 18,
59 = 5 × 29 × 2 = 1018 - Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
- 918 < 1018 or 36 < 59
