Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 25 and 10 is 50

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 50
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 25 × 2 = 50,
    30/25 = 30 × 2/25 × 2 = 60/50
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 10 × 5 = 50,
    63/10 = 63 × 5/10 × 5 = 315/50
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 60/50 < 315/50 or 30/25 < 63/10
