Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 3 and 6 is 6
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 3 × 2 = 6,
    30/3 = 30 × 2/3 × 2 = 60/6
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 6 × 1 = 6,
    28/6 = 28 × 1/6 × 1 = 28/6
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 60/6 > 28/6 or 30/3 > 28/6
