Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 36 and 32 is 288

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 288
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 36 × 8 = 288,
    30/36 = 30 × 8/36 × 8 = 240/288
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 32 × 9 = 288,
    14/32 = 14 × 9/32 × 9 = 126/288
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 240/288 > 126/288 or 30/36 > 14/32
