Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 70 and 60 is 420

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 420
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 70 × 6 = 420,
    30/70 = 30 × 6/70 × 6 = 180/420
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 60 × 7 = 420,
    28/60 = 28 × 7/60 × 7 = 196/420
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 180/420 < 196/420 or 30/70 < 28/60
