Steps for comparing fractions

1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
   LCM of 80 and 84 is 1680
   
   Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 1680
2. For the 1st fraction, since 80 × 21 = 1680,
   30/80 = 30 × 21/80 × 21 = 630/1680
3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 84 × 20 = 1680,
   50/84 = 50 × 20/84 × 20 = 1000/1680
4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
5. 630/1680 < 1000/1680 or 30/80 < 50/84
