Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 98 and 30 is 1470

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 1470
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 98 × 15 = 1470,
    30/98 = 30 × 15/98 × 15 = 450/1470
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 30 × 49 = 1470,
    4/30 = 4 × 49/30 × 49 = 196/1470
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
