Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 3 and 36 is 36

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 36
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 3 × 12 = 36,
    35/3 = 35 × 12/3 × 12 = 420/36
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 36 × 1 = 36,
    10/36 = 10 × 1/36 × 1 = 10/36
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 420/36 > 10/36 or 35/3 > 10/36
