Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 3 and 9 is 9
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 3 × 3 = 9,
    35/3 = 35 × 3/3 × 3 = 105/9
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 9 × 1 = 9,
    14/9 = 14 × 1/9 × 1 = 14/9
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 105/9 > 14/9 or 35/3 > 14/9
