Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 50 and 10 is 50

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 50
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 50 × 1 = 50,
    35/50 = 35 × 1/50 × 1 = 35/50
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 10 × 5 = 50,
    5/10 = 5 × 5/10 × 5 = 25/50
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 35/50 > 25/50 or 35/50 > 5/10
