Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 90 and 9 is 90
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 90 × 1 = 90,
    35/90 = 35 × 1/90 × 1 = 35/90
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 9 × 10 = 90,
    10/9 = 10 × 10/9 × 10 = 100/90
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 35/90 < 100/90 or 35/90 < 10/9
