Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 2 and 30 is 30

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 30
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 2 × 15 = 30,
    4/2 = 4 × 15/2 × 15 = 60/30
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 30 × 1 = 30,
    2/30 = 2 × 1/30 × 1 = 2/30
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 60/30 > 2/30 or 4/2 > 2/30
