Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 3 and 75 is 75

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 75
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 3 × 25 = 75,
    4/3 = 4 × 25/3 × 25 = 100/75
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 75 × 1 = 75,
    10/75 = 10 × 1/75 × 1 = 10/75
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 100/75 > 10/75 or 4/3 > 10/75
