Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 32 and 10 is 160

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 160
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 32 × 5 = 160,
    4/32 = 4 × 5/32 × 5 = 20/160
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 10 × 16 = 160,
    6/10 = 6 × 16/10 × 16 = 96/160
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 20/160 < 96/160 or 4/32 < 6/10
