Steps for comparing fractions

  1. Find the least common denominator or LCM of the two denominators:
    LCM of 50 and 6 is 150

    Next, find the equivalent fraction of both fractional numbers with denominator 150
  2. For the 1st fraction, since 50 × 3 = 150,
    4/50 = 4 × 3/50 × 3 = 12/150
  3. Likewise, for the 2nd fraction, since 6 × 25 = 150,
    3/6 = 3 × 25/6 × 25 = 75/150
  4. Since the denominators are now the same, the fraction with the bigger numerator is the greater fraction
  5. 12/150 < 75/150 or 4/50 < 3/6
